How you make a difference:
The Registered Dietitian is responsible for providing nutritional assessments and developing plans for patient population, teaching education classes to persons served and correctional staff, and acting as a nutrition resource in compliance with all applicable dietitian standards and regulations. They work under the direction of the Health Services Administrator (HSA) or Program Manager (PM), or higher licensed medical professional, to ensure that all patients receive appropriate and effective nutritional care. Ultimately, the Registered Dietitian plays a critical role in helping patients achieve and maintain optimal health and wellness through proper nutrition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct initial nutritional assessments in accordance with state regulations and document findings in persons served medical record, including written summaries of history, diagnosis, and treatment course as required by CMGC and facility.
- Develop and implement nutritional care plans, counsel patients on dietary plans and food selection, and teach educational classes as required.
- Consult with healthcare personnel and physicians as needed to facilitate meeting the nutritional needs of persons served and act as a resource to staff concerning nutrition issues.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including healthcare professionals practice act requirements, and submit timely annual Nutrition Service Plan and updates as required.
- Assist with job shadowing and orientation/training of new employees as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education
- High school and specialized training for licensing/certification(s)
Experience
- One year of experience as a Registered Dietitian
- Experience within a correctional/detention facility preferred
Licenses/Certifications
- Current (and must maintain) unrestricted Registered Dietitian license in state of practice
- Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA
- Current (and must maintain) lifesaving ACLS certification through AHA preferred
