REQUIREMENTS:
- Current certificate of competence as Registered Nurse (RN) from the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Completed PIECES Learning and Development program
- Completed DementiAbility Methods: The Montessori Way program
- Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA)
- Canadian Nursing Association (CNA) Certification or Certificate in Mental Health or Gerontology or willingness to complete
- Basic cardiac life support certification
- Minimum of two years of progressive and current experience in Geriatric Mental Health Nursing including specialized skills in assessment of dementia, delirium, mental health and addictions
- Demonstrated excellence in planning and delivery of education sessions to individuals or groups
- Valid Class G Driver’s License and access to a vehicle
- Demonstrated leadership skills in the initiation, coordination of and participation in team/family conferences and clinical activities
- Demonstrated clinical knowledge and expertise in geriatrics which will be assessed through interview and testing.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in an oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines
- Demonstrated effective problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Working knowledge of computer applications and software such as Microsoft Office Suite
- Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
- Demonstrated and proven ability to work in a collaborative care model with all members of the health care team
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of the College of Nurses standards of practice
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education activities supporting ongoing professional learning in nursing
- Embodies the LEAN ideology by actively and continually seeking opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Must have demonstrated ability to meet the attendance standards of the Hospital
- Bilingualism preferred (French/English)
