Description:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for you to join our friendly team in the Radiology Department within the Outpatient Service at York Hospital.
We are currently open Monday-Friday between 8am-6pm. Providing the local community with high quality care and services across a wide variety of specialties.
You will assist consultants to run specialist clinics and p rovide patients with treatments and procedures in a variety of different clinics.
You will work alongside Healthcare Support Workers to provide safe and efficient patient care. Please note - this role is between the Radiology and Outpatient department in York Hospital.
Please note - this role will involve working in radiology with the requirements of wearing lead protective aprons.
Maintain a high standard of patient focused care in accordance with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust policies and procedures
Maintain a safe and clean working environment
Provide assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for patients, ensuring accurate written records are kept.
Communicate with patients and carers to ensure they have access to appropriate information.
Promote and maintain positive relationships between all staff involved in the care of the patient
Act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct
Undertake duties on different wards/departments as and when required by service demands
Demonstrate personal responsibility for compliance with infection control policies and procedures

Clinical Skills within Radiology

  • Medication management including contrast
  • Administration of Contrast enemas - Following trust pathways and pre procedure checks to ensure patient safety at all times.
  • Assisting radiologists and radiographers with biopsies (Ultrasound, X-Ray and CT guided) including renal, liver, lung and node biopsies.
  • Assisting with a variety of procedures requiring radiological support for both outpatient and inpatients lists.
  • Working with adult and paediatric patients .

Clinical skills within Outpatients

  • Safe administration of medication, including intramuscular injections
  • Wound care using ANTT for a variety of wounds on both vascular and plastic surgery clinics. Following and creating wound care plans and providing health information for patients.
  • Patient assessment, including A to E assessment and escalation of assessment to the appropriate clinician.
  • Undertaking ECGs competently.
  • Working with student nurses to support them with their competencies and objectives.
  • Working alongside the Nurse in Charge to coordinate the morning or afternoon clinics, considering skill mix and staffing.
