TRAINING OPPORTUNITY

Should there be insufficient qualified candidates available for the above position,
VCH may offer a training program. Cover letter and resume are required.
Candidates accepting this training opportunity agree to remain with Vancouver
Coastal Health (VCH) in the areas of nursing applicable to the education program for
which they are hired for at least 18 months subsequent to completing training.
This will ensure that candidates are able to consolidate and apply skills in the
specialty area that VCH has supported and funded candidates to complete.
In the event that a candidate leaves the areas of nursing applicable to the education
program for which they were hired for VCH in under 18 months, VCH will seek to
recover the cost of the program.
Salary: The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42/Hr. - CAD $55.91/Hr. Job Summary:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Completion of recognized post-basic education in gastroenterology/GI endoscopy nursing, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Broad knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a patient/family centred model of care.
  • Broad knowledge of BCCNM standards for nursing practice.
  • Broad knowledge of Gastrointestinal (GI) anatomy and physiology.
  • General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice, Harm Reduction approach and Strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Broad knowledge of pharmacology, and patient physiological reactions, related to conscious sedation.
  • Broad knowledge of nursing problems commonly encountered in an endoscopy environment.
  • Demonstrated ability in the initiation and management of IV therapy and administration of IV medications.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond immediately and appropriately to sudden emergencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess patient responses during procedure and to respond appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and effectively deal with patients and their families, co-workers, physicians, and other health care workers.
  • Demonstrated skill in procedural sedation and analgesia.
  • Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of and set up of endoscopy equipment.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload in a fast paced, high volume procedure environment.Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
