Our work keeps Scotland’s water flowing, from reservoir to tap – and from sewer to treatment plant. Want to join us? We are looking for a Regulatory Adviser to join our Water Quality (WQ) Regulation Team, based in the Central Belt.
What you’ll do
In this role, you’ll be offering key water quality regulatory advice and support to one of our Customer Water Services Operations areas. A big part of your job will involve writing up WQ Incident and Enhanced Outcome Reports. These reports are reviewed at the Director level before being submitted to the Drinking Water Quality Regulator for Scotland (DWQR). You’ll also be working closely with the DWQR inspector for the area. Plus, you’ll provide valuable support to both the Water Regulation Team Manager and the Head of Water Regulation and Public Health.
What you’ll need
You’ll be responsible for providing regulatory support to a Customer Water Services Ops area, ensuring that all regulatory commitments are tracked, and that actions are escalated as needed to help meet our goal of 0 late actions.
You’ll need to take an evidence-based approach and be comfortable challenging when necessary to make sure we’re always doing the best for our customers. Building strong working relationships across various Scottish Water teams, as well as with the DWQR, will be crucial in this role. You’ll also handle DWQR information requests, technical audits, and attend DWQR visits.
For this role, you’ll need to have a solid understanding of water quality regulations, as well as a good working knowledge of water treatment processes, networks, and catchment management. Previous experience working with regulators and stakeholders at a senior level is essential. You’ll need to be comfortable managing competing demands and working under pressure. Strong report writing skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication are key to success in this role.
Please note that travel to other offices and Scottish Water sites, such as water treatment works, will be part of the job, and this could occasionally mean overnight stays. A full driving licence is essential for this role.

The not-so-small print
This role will be a Grade 7. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £41,000. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £51,970.
