The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) is responsible for the safe, reliable, and economic planning and operation of the Alberta Interconnected Electric System. Job Description
Reporting to the Legal Manager, Transmission, the Regulatory Analyst is a member of the AESO’s Legal & Regulatory Affairs team, and works on a wide variety of matters, with responsibility for delivering advice that is in the best interests of the AESO, industry participants and Albertans.
The Regulatory Analyst works collaboratively as part of the AESO Law Department to achieve the AESO’s strategic and business goals, ensure compliance with the AESO’s public interest mandate and regulatory legal obligations, and assist with proactively mitigating risk and preventing legal liability.

Accountabilities include:

  • Develop an understanding of the AESO’s mandate, business and an awareness of stakeholder relations.
  • Develop a clear understanding of the regulatory framework and associated internal and external processes and provide advice to internal clients in relation to those matters
  • Draft and assist in the development of AESO authoritative documents (ISO rules, reliability standards, the ISO tariff and updates to the AESO’s Consolidated Authoritative Document Glossary), information documents, and associated documentation (including materials for internal governance).
  • Develop knowledge of processes with respect to AUC submissions and proceedings and assist with the AESO’s participation in proceedings where appropriate.
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of formal and informal stakeholder consultation processes and procedures.
  • Facilitate industry consultation and manage communication with external stakeholders and industry committees related to development of authoritative documents.
  • Manage the development and maintenance of a detailed work plan identifying and sequencing the activities undertaken to develop authoritative documents and information documents through each of the stakeholder consultation process and the Alberta Utilities Commission filing and proceeding processes.
  • Gather information and prepare memoranda to help guide decision-making.
  • Develop and provide education on regulatory processes.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with internal clients and external stakeholders as required.
  • Ongoing support to the Legal Manager, Transmission as required.

You have:

  • University Degree or Certificate in Project Management.
  • 5 or more years of project management experience ideally in an electric utility or regulatory setting.
  • Understanding of the Alberta electricity industry, legislation and regulatory structure is an asset.
