ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY | KO TE ĀHEINGA:
Are you looking for a great opportunity to be at the forefront of environmental protection? As a Regulatory Compliance Officer with our Pollution Response and Enforcement team, you will be responsible for ensuring that Council efficiently and effectively responds to pollution events within the region. A key aspect of this is the delivery of appropriate solutions and outcomes that are aligned to regulations and consistent with HBRC’s enforcement policies. You will need to be a pro-active problem solver with a can-do attitude and a desire to educate people around how to improve their practices.
Alongside this, you will utilise your investigative skills and understanding of the Resource Management Act, National Environmental Standards, and regional rules to ensure great outcomes for our local environment. Your work will see you actively engaging with both internal and external stakeholders to promote responsible resource use and bolster regulatory compliance. Please note, there is a requirement to be rostered on as part of the Councils after hours pollution response service.
The key objectives of the role are to:
- Ensure enforcement cases conducted by Council are effectively managed, guaranteeing any enforcement proceedings are undertaken in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ensure that any investigations and evidence collection undertaken by Council is to a high standard and compliant with the Evidence Act 2006.
- Provide support to other operational staff throughout the council who may administer other legislation and take a leading role in any enforcement action if required.
- Contribute to the Quality Management System.
