ABOUT THE JOB:
This role will provide day-to-day legal support and guidance as well as strategic direction to the company on all matters related to regulatory compliance with a focus on engine emissions regulations, material/chemical regulations and customs and trade compliance.

Responsibilities:
In this role you will perform functions including:
- Provide strategic and practical legal guidance relating to regulatory compliance, with focus on engine emissions compliance and customs & trade compliance.
- Support Regulatory Compliance, Warranty, Quality and Product Engineering and Development for regulatory affairs on all relevant matters, including government reporting, disclosures, remediation, training, policy and operating procedures.
- Support senior leader with legal input on key areas including risk management and intellectual property.
- Review and analyze business practices, proposals, and technical services publication for product regulatory compliance with applicable laws.
- Keep up to date on changes in regulation, legislation, and market expectations related to engine emissions, substance compliance, and customs and trade laws through work with trade associations and governmental liaisons. Engage with the business through training and raising awareness on these developments.
- Monitor and implement legal and regulatory developments in areas of responsibility.
- Communicate legal opinions and recommendations simply effectively, persuasively and professionally.
- Regularly liaise with key leaders in Japan.
- Advise on safety standards and regulations.
- Manage outside counsel billing to ensure billing is within guidelines and budget.
