Description:

We are currently seeking highly skilled and compassionate Rehabilitation Therapists in Toronto, ON to join our team of professionals in providing individualized therapeutic sessions to clients with acquired brain injuries (ABIs) with cognitive impairments, concurrent physical, behavioural, addictions and mental health issues. This position is based out of an in-patient addictions facility.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing life and social skills programming, interpersonal communication, implementation of behavior management strategies, and attendant care. Activities and goals are developed based on our clients’ needs and are directed by regulated healthcare professionals (RHPs).
Overall, as a Rehabilitation Therapist, you will be part of a team that endeavors to deliver specialized care, assisting individuals with making strides in their recovery and improving their overall health and quality of life.
Job Qualification

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education in areas such as behavioural/social sciences, psychology, neuroscience, mental health and addictions, human behaviour, or related field
  • Minimum 2 years working in community/in-patient health care settings; supportive housing
  • Minimum 2 years working with individuals with complex needs; dual diagnosis, acquired brain injuries, psychiatric/neurological conditions, chronic pain, addictions
  • Availability to work on a casual basis with flexibility for weekend, day, or evenings shifts. Please note: hours are not guaranteed and will fluctuate according to client census
  • Certification in First Aid & CPR, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification

  • Ability to work independently, and effectively collaborate with an interdisciplinary team
  • Strong decision-making and conflict resolution skills; comfort with addressing issues such as verbal aggression, physical and environmental aggression, elopement, socially and sexually inappropriate behaviours

  • Computer literacy: secure email, documentation
  • Strong oral/written communication
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; empathic listening; emotional regulation

Responsibilities:

  • Work under the direction of RHPs to implement recommendations, strategies and support plans for individuals with concurrent physical, behavioural, addictions and mental health issues, assisting with independence
  • Support clients with minimizing the impact of their cognitive impairments (such as attention/concentration, information processing, decision making, judgement, insight, memory) and behavioural impairments (such as irritability, impulse control/self regulation, disinhibition)
  • Contribute to the development of clients’ programs and treatment plans in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team
  • Perform de-escalation and/or non-violent crisis intervention maneuvers
  • Document progress and maintain accurate records of clients’ treatment following company and provincial guidelines
  • Encourage, motivate, cue, redirect, and support as needed for activities of daily living (ADLs), which may include assisting with orientation, personal care (e.g. bathing, dressing/undressing, eating/drinking, transfers, hygiene) therapy engagement, and other aspects of daily living
  • Accompany clients to appointments, community outings, and/or social events
  • Educate clients and their families about behaviour challenges, addictions, mental health issues, and cognitive deficits
  • Complete research to assist with enhancing client programs
  • Other clinical and administrative duties as assigned
