Description:

JM Murray RS position functions as a mental health program specialist. Seeking a highly-motivated, creative, reliable staff with excellent communication and organizational skills to promote and develop community volunteer opportunities for individuals with mental health disabilities. Develop employment plans and assess volunteers to determine employment readiness. Provide counseling, program planning, job specific training, crisis intervention, and advocacy, on and off the job site. The ability to work independently and apply sound judgement is a must.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Responsible for the delivery of services in the Office of Mental Health (OMH) Cortland County Contract Services and OMH Home and Community Based Waiver Services (HCBS).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Associates Degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred, in vocational services, disabilities services, business, personnel management, mental health or social services counseling.
One year of experience in similar fields of study and work required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Ability to establish rapport with different individuals and personalities, and build trust
Ability to provide services to individuals and in small groups
Active Listening skills
Problem solving and trouble shooting skills
Good written communication skills and efficient use of technology
Flexibility to adjust to changes in schedule and work assignments

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Requires a valid NYS Driver’s License that meets Company standards; requires proof of NYS
minimum insurance coverage.
Requires clearance through a Background Check process that will include, but is not limited to,
clearance through the NYS Justice Center, the Office of Mental Health (OMH (as required)), the NYS
Department of Motor Vehicles, and the NYS Office of Child and Family Services.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a caseload of individuals served, meeting with them routinely and monitoring their progress, addressing concerns as needed.
  • Conducts intake assessments and obtains necessary supporting documentation. Determines eligibility and assesses needs during intake appointments. Assesses individuals to determine employment readiness.
  • Establishes and monitors community volunteer opportunities for individuals consistent with their individual needs and interests.
  • Provides individuals with needed supports such as job specific training, crisis intervention and advocacy, both on and off the job site.
  • Coordinates the operation and volunteer placement of the Employment Connection Clothing Closet and hygiene supplies.
  • Works cooperatively with other involved agencies to ensure that needed support services are available. When otherwise not available, provides case management support in the areas of hygiene, independent living, housing, budgeting, transportation, children, social security, and other related areas of support.
  • Completes appropriate and timely documentation in each individual case file including but not limited to: notes, referrals, follow-up, correspondence etc. Documentation occurs through the JM Murray Electronic Medical Record, and the use of equipment which includes but is not limited to a computer, laptop, and/or a tablet.
  • Conducts informal presentations at area agencies. Coordinates and conducts groups and classes based on interests and needs of individuals. Develops and facilitates self-empowerment groups.
  • Provides functional back up coverage for other Cortland County contracted services, as assigned. This includes performing work tasks and meetings with individuals in the locations where the Instructor and the Disability Analyst are located.
  • Performs clerical duties necessary to maintain accurate records and service operations including but not limited to filing, copying, computer entry, etc.
  • Attends all required and requested training and meetings, and maintains certifications for required services training according to current regulatory requirements (OMH-HCBS)
  • Conducts self in a manner as to always contribute to maximum individual growth and in accordance with all regulations, the company Code of Ethics and Company policy and procedures. Represents JM Murray and the JM Murray mission in a positive manner, treating people with respect and dignity.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities, as assigned.
