Description:

Req ID: 72546
Department: Tech A&E Engineering & Platforms
Division: Technology
Location: Melbourne
About Us
At ANZ, we’re applying new ways technology and data can be harnessed as we work towards a common goal: to improve the financial wellbeing and sustainability of our millions of customers.
About the Role
As a Release Lead within the Engineering & Platforms team, part of the Architecture and Engineering domain, you’ll drive bank-wide engineering solutions and play a pivotal role in transforming how we do business. Our team is responsible for developing and maintaining core technological platforms such as CI/CD tooling (GitHub, Bamboo, Codefresh), Github Co-Pilot, DORA metrics, the Engineering Portal, and Quality Testing frameworks, among others. We set the standards and drive cutting-edge tech initiatives to deliver value across the bank.
In this role, you’ll champion Agile ways of working across multiple squads and collaborate with Product Owners, Analysts, and Delivery Leads across Tribes to convert business initiatives into cross-platform releases of new technology features or enhancements.
You’ll support and incorporate best practices in release management, enabling squads to develop, test, and release high-quality solutions that deliver value for customers rapidly, reliably, and efficiently.
You’ll provide advice and guidance across the Tribe about Change Management and the ANZ Delivery Framework, applying a collaborative approach to mentoring, coaching, and training. As you transform release processes, you will improve delivery and manage inter-Tech Area dependencies.
Banking is changing and we’re changing with it, giving our people great opportunities to try new things, learn and grow. Whatever your role at ANZ, you’ll be building your future, while helping to build ours.
Role Type: Permanent
Role Location: Melbourne
Work Hours: Hybrid
What will your day look like?
Release Lead converts business initiatives into cross-platform releases of new technology features or enhancements and ensures customer value is delivered as quickly as possible. You will influence squads to transform release processes to improve delivery and help manage Inter-Tech Area dependencies. As a Release Lead, you are accountable to:
Act as the SME and owner of the change and delivery process across the Tribe
Provide Release Management as a service to the Tribe, working closely with Squad Product Owners, Engineers and Technical leads to coach, plan and manage successful implementation across multiple products and teams
Promote and communicate planned releases to ensure fully visibility by all stakeholders
Drive continuous improvement of the release management framework and help coach and educate less experienced parties
Facilitate and lead agile release planning sessions and ensure outcomes are well communicated and agreed
Drive collaborative culture within Technology Areas and Tribes, providing transparency on priorities to ensure customer outcomes are delivered on time
Negotiate release schedule across platforms to present the best outcome for the customer and ANZ
Oversee the approval and management of deployment activities into production, e.g. code deployment, via representation to the Tribe Change Forum
Establish the delivery of governance, transition and approval of artefacts and processes, to enable a release to progress as planned. And feed that into the Tribe Change forum and production support
Develop, implement and leverage an Agile Release Train where required, to enable a cadenced delivery regime for the tribe to use
Co-ordinate and execute release activities in-squad, across squads, and at times, across tribes
Help squads to co-ordinate the completion of post-production verification activities
Establish and co-ordinate tribe-external engagements, for the purposes of release delivery
Communicate release delivery plans to stakeholders
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
We know not everyone will bring all of the skills and experience, and at ANZ we are focused on people bringing a growth mindset to their approach to work. Some of the skills we are looking for are below, but don’t worry if you don’t have all of these as learning on the job is the way we work.
Experience in scheduling work to optimise workflow/throughput through a number of Technology Areas to maintain velocity and team cadence
Dev-ops understanding (CI/CD Pipeline). Experience in common tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo, Service Now etc.
ANZ Delivery Framework (ADF) understanding
Demonstrated competency to deliver Tribe/Squad outcomes from initiatives assigned to you via the application of tribe Governance, Transition and Approval processes
Exceptional stakeholder management experience
An understanding of the release process and how it’s applied across squads/tribes
Able to understand technology principles and tools, to effectively provision and co-ordinate complex interdependencies as they are expressed in installations and implementations
Ability to coordinate end to end delivery across multiple technology areas
Keen eye to identify dependencies and risks and come up with mitigations plans accordingly
You’re not expected to have 100% of these skills. At ANZ a growth mindset is at the heart of our culture, so if you have most of these things in your toolbox, we’d love to hear from you.
So why join us?
From the moment you join ANZ, you’ll be doing meaningful work that will shape a world where people and communities thrive.
But it’s not just our customers who’ll feel your impact. you’ll feel it too. Because at ANZ, you’ll have the resources, opportunities, and support you need to take the next big step in your career.
We’re a diverse bunch at ANZ in different roles, different locations, doing different things. That’s why we have a range of flexible working arrangements, so our people can ‘make work, work for them’. We also provide a range of benefits including access to health and wellbeing services and discounts on selected products and services from ANZ and more.
At ANZ, you’ll be part of an organisation where the different backgrounds, perspectives and life experiences of our people are celebrated. That’s because we’re committed to building a workplace that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. We welcome applications from everyone and encourage you to talk to us about any adjustments you may require to our recruitment process or the role itself.
