Description:
THE OPPORTUNITY
BC Ferries is one of the largest ferry operators in the world, dedicated to safe, efficient travel along BC’s beautiful coast for over 60 years. We are currently seeking a motivated Reliability Engineer to support our Asset Management strategy by implementing the Reliability-Based Maintenance (RBM) process across all terminals.
Reporting to the Director of Engineering Standards and Asset Services, the Reliability Engineer will be responsible for utilizing reliability engineering principles, tools and techniques to drive improvement in the availability and reliability of vessel and terminal assets and help optimise asset life cycle performance. This role offers a unique opportunity to drive long-term maintenance solutions within a complex operational environment.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director, Engineering Standards and Asset Services, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:
- Leading the establishment and upkeep of asset reliability metrics and associated data analysis for vessel fleet and terminal assets for the purpose of supporting asset management lifecycle planning;
- Monitoring reliability trends, performs detailed reliability studies and calculations of component/system reliabilities;
- Performing, maintaining, and reviewing a variety of analysis and modelling functions, such as: descriptive statistics, Weibull analysis, maintainability and availability, warranty, physics-of-failure modelling, Monte Carlo Simulation, optimization and decision models, Fault Tree Analysis, Reliability Block Diagrams, and tolerance analysis;
- Supporting maintenance and improvements of reliability engineering processes and related asset management documentation;
- Considering impact of costs on recommended action plans for avoiding/correcting problems during the design phase or remedial action for correcting reliability problems on installed equipment;
- Performing and/or facilitating root cause failure analysis (FMEAs or Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM)), effects and severities, causes and occurrences, prevention and detection actions, and special characteristics to help prevent failures;
- Managing in-house consulting activities, advising and counseling personnel on a variety of complicated processes/procedures related to reliability and/or asset management, supported by detailed lifecycle calculations and guided by cost-effective decisions and recommendations;
- Assisting in the development of specifications and commissioning plans, detailed technical instructions and work instructions, and the classification of asset and maintenance data;
- Advising Chief Engineers, Superintendents, and other stakeholders on decisions and necessary actions necessary to execute strategic reliability plans; and
- Other related duties as may be assigned from time to time.
