Description:

We are a dynamic community-based health centre promoting social justice and health equity in the Regent Park neighbourhood and Downtown East area of Toronto. We operate out of several locations and provide a wide variety of services including: primary health care, chiropody, physiotherapy, health promotion, social work, community health, immigrant and refugee services, harm reduction and homeless programs, Pathways to Education, infant and child development programs, parenting programs, youth outreach and employment services.

JOB SUMMARY

The Dental Receptionist is a member of the Regent Park Community Health Centre Dental Program team which provides subsidized dental health care services to residents of Regent Park CHC’s catchment area and beyond, in accordance with the RPCHC’s mission and mandate. The Dental Receptionist ensures efficient operation of the dental reception area, provides friendly and professional patient intake, and promotes a positive image of health centre services.
This is a Relief position (Hours of work are on an as required basis according to program needs.)

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED



    • Dental Assisting Diploma or Dental Receptionist Certificate or commensurate experience in a dental setting

    • Minimum one-year experience in a dental setting and sound knowledge of dental terminology
    • Working knowledge of general administrative practices
    • Technical knowledge of dental practices and procedures including infection control, dental records management, dental fee guides and types of dental coverage
    • Experience in dental equipment maintenance (routine) is an asset
    • Computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office and electronic scheduling software
    • Organizational and time management skills
    • Strong oral and written communication and English language skills
    • Ability to work collaboratively within and across teams
    • Able to work effectively with a diverse client population including people with various cultural, and economic backgrounds, mental health and/or addictions issues
    • Knowledge of the Regent Park area and issues affecting the community
    • Knowledge of second language an asset.

    Responsibilities:

    • Ensure that telephone calls and emails are answered promptly and respond to messages in a timely manner;
    • Meet and greet all clients and handle the administrative duties specific to registering a client, preparing a chart, obtaining billing particulars and ensuring the client is ready to be seen by the dentist;
    • Prepare charts for the same and next day;
    • Process, complete billings and submit them for the dental clinic.
    • Be present during operating hours;
    • Provide coverage for the dental assistant during lunch breaks and as needed;
    • Ensure the program’s phone’s voicemail message is current and communicates clearly what is happening within the office;
    • Check and sign for deliveries;
    • Work to optimize bookings per dentist per day while staying within the limits of providing good dental care and IPAC protocols;
    • Help to maximize the time the dental assistant is available to work with the dentists and carry out their other related duties;
    • Post signs when the hours of operation change;
    • Keep information on hand for the clients that will assist them in obtaining the care they require;
    • Keep office areas neat and organized;
