HSBC is the largest bank in Europe and is also one of the largest investment banks in the world. MSS IT provides technology solutions for its Global Banking and Markets business worldwide.
Securities Financing is a relatively-recently formed asset class within HSBC and employs a varied technology stack in order to deliver value to the business and its clients. It encompasses a set of interconnected and interdependent business areas such as DeltaOne, Synthetic Trading, Stock Borrow Loan, Prime Brokerage and Repo. We relentlessly pursue increased efficiencies through the adoption of Agile methodologies – with a key focus on DevOps.
We are looking to grow our global team with a talented new London-based hire, joining the Repo Technology organisation within Securities Financing Technology. We have been challenged by our business partners with an ambitious change agenda for 2024 and beyond. A number of these initiatives demand close interaction with our business and an understanding of the Repo product.
The successful candidate will join the Repo Technology organisation and play a lead role in technology delivery for the business. They will interact with our partners in the business across a broad range of seniority, drawing maximum value from their proximity to gain a thorough understanding of current and future technology asks. This will be in adherence with best practices including Agile and DevOps, and departmental architectural principles. The successful candidate will also assist in growing the technical expertise of their global colleagues – coaching and mentoring.

In this role you will:

  • Playing a lead role in delivery of technology to the business. Strong focus on business outcome.
  • Involvement in all phases of the software development life cycle, including analysis, implementation, testing, and post-release production support.
  • Formation of strong relationships with business staff across a range of different functions.
  • In-depth understanding of architecture, design patterns and software engineering best practices.
  • Adoption and advocacy of DevOps and Agile principles, in alignment with the broader Equities and Securities Financing Technology department.

Requirements

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Proven experience of enterprise software development experience using Java.
  • Strong grasp of Java, Linux and database technologies (Oracle, Postgres, Mongo, etc).
  • Appreciation and familiarity with cloud technologies; Google Cloud or similar.
  • Knowledge of software development tooling.
  • Working knowledge of microservice-based application architecture.
  • Appreciation of cyber-security and related concepts.
  • Keen understanding of technical trends in the broader world.
  • Proven record of delivering business outcomes in a finance setting, working closely with a front office function.
  • Knowledge of Fixed Income products, with a focus on Repo.

This role is based in London and offers hybrid working
