Description:
JOB SUMMARY:
The Biochemistry Department is a large, complexly funded unit and this position will provide support in departmental fiscal activities including pre- and post-award sponsored project administration and overall financial management.
As a member of our research administration team, this position will assist Biochemistry faculty and researchers to submit research proposals to various sponsors, both federal and non-federal. They will also assist in maintaining non-scientific documents associated with sponsored research. The employee will assist in the post-award management of various sponsored research projects including accounting, policy compliance, and progress reporting to the sponsor, the university, and the research team.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in a business or administrative setting is required. Training or experience in an academic environment is desirable.
This employee must be able to communicate with a diverse population, coordinate resources,
determine priorities, and assist in decision-making. The successful candidate will have demonstrated time-management skills, attention to detail, ability to problem-solve, excellent written communication skills, ability to establish and maintain positive professional relationships, and ability to work independently.
Ideal candidates will have knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn UW grant and financial systems; interpret and analyze college, university, and sponsor policies; guidelines, rules, and regulations.
Responsibilities:
Works directly with principal investigator(s) and/or research program director(s) to carry out research administrative functions related sponsored grants, agreements, or award management (proposal preparation through closeout).
- 20% Serves as a liaison and expert resource for researchers regarding the interpretation of policy and procedure related to overall sponsored project management
- 30% Works collaboratively with researchers to prepare non-technical materials for proposals, drafting contracts or agreements for review, and/or advising award setup
- 30% Leads researchers in the preparation and/or maintenance documentation, financial management, and/or reporting requirements related to sponsored grants, contracts, or agreements
- 5% May identify funding opportunities and disseminate to principal investigators
- 10% Maintains and monitors grants and contract budgets
- 5% Assures compliance with grant, contract or agreement requirements and determine whether objectives are being met
