JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for an experienced researcher who will join the Research Hub. The Research Advisor is expected to conduct high-quality, cutting-edge research on the priority topics under the Bank of England Agenda for Research (BEAR) . We are looking to recruit an experienced macroeconomist who can produce excellent research to advance our understanding of at least one of the following topics: the monetary policy transmission mechanism, inflation forecasting and future use of the central bank balance sheet.
We are open to applicants who wish to hold this position on a part-time basis by combining it with another academic position at a UK university, provided that it does not represent any conflict of interest with, or interfere with, the position at the Bank: please indicate in the application if you are interested in such an appointment. By joining the Bank you will have the opportunity to use our data to work on research projects which are pertinent to central bank policymaking.

The research responsibilities consist of the following:

  • Informing the Bank’s policy through own research on the priority topics by presenting research findings internally, including to senior policy makers as appropriate.
  • Influencing the external policy debate through own research, through presentations at high-profile external conferences and seminars.
  • Publishing own research in respected refereed journals.
  • Developing and maintaining a network of contacts, both in the academic and in the central bank research community, to maximise the external impact of the Bank’s research.

Additional responsibilities could include some of the following:

  • Managing at least one of the key research processes owned by the Research Hub, which includes: Chairing the Bankwide seminar organising board and managing the Research Visitor Programme; managing the Research Hub secondment programme; managing the Staff Working Paper series; and managing the external communication of our research.
  • Editing the Staff Working Papers in own area of expertise.
  • Providing technical advice on others’ research projects and project proposals in own area of expertise.
  • Organising research events to make progress on the priority topics.
