Job Description
The General Adult Psychiatry and Health Systems Division at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is focused on improving the quality of care and access to appropriate care within the mental health and addictions system. The division is seeking a full-time, contract (12-month) Research Analyst to work in the emergency department (ED) on a 4-year prospective cohort study intended to better understand the characteristics, trajectories, perspectives, and outcomes of people experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviours who present to ED at CAMH. This study aims to characterize and understand these individuals by using a range of clinical, health services, qualitative, and biological data.
Reporting to the Research Operations Manager and working closely with the Principal Investigator and Research Coordinator, this role will involve supporting the coordination, implementation, and monitoring of this project. The main responsibilities for the role will involve working with nursing champions in the ED to screen and recruit research participants, scheduling participant appointments, leading the informed consent process, administering study assessments and structured diagnostic interviews, transporting samples (e.g., blood), performing data entry, maintaining databases (e.g., REDCap), supporting other research team members, scheduling follow-up appointments with participants throughout the duration of study involvement, managing research documentation, and providing participant honoraria. The research analyst will also have the opportunity to assist in developing and facilitating a study advisory committee. The successful candidate will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements, including good laboratory practices (GLP). This full-time position is located at 1051 Queen Street West at CAMH’s Queen Street Site and will require flexible hours (i.e., ability to work different shifts, including evenings and/or weekends on an as-needed basis).
Job Requirements
The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor degree in psychology, social sciences, or related disciplines, in combination with one (1) year of post-graduate experience working in a relevant research setting. The successful candidate will have prior experiences with participant recruitment and maintaining research databases. Previous experience and training in administration of clinical questionnaires/assessments (e.g., SCID-5-RV) is an asset. Prior experience working in an ED setting is also an asset. Research or service experience with individuals and/or families with mental health and addiction issues are required for this position, with a particular emphasis on people that have suicidal thoughts and behaviours. Excellent interpersonal and organization skills are required. Strong PC software skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), online academic search engines (e.g., PsycINFO, PubMed, Medline) and the ability to learn new programs as necessary is required. Experience in summarizing and presenting data for presentations is an asset. Familiarity with conducting basic analyses using statistical packages (SPSS, SAS) and using data management software (e.g., REDCAP) is important. Effective communication skills (both oral and written) are essential as is the capability to explain complex issues in plain language. The successful candidates will have excellent capacity for self-directed learning/working, and require minimal supervision. The successful candidates need to be detail-oriented, exercise initiative, good judgment and have the ability to multi-task and produce high-quality, accurate work while meeting deadlines and requirements in a fast-paced environment. Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language would be an asset. The successful candidates will also have the ability to work well with individuals from diverse backgrounds and in a wide range of settings.
