Description:

The Department of Radiology is looking to hire a Research and Development Engineer to join their team. They will use professional engineering concepts to perform moderately complex engineering assignments. Works in a specialized engineering field on a major training and / or research effort. Works on assignments of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $75,700 - $160,500 (Annual Rate).

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Department of Radiology is one of the largest departments in the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). The mission of the Department includes research, teaching, and patient care. The Department operates across six sites in San Francisco.
The Cerebrovenous Disorders (CVD) Lab is a multi-disciplinary research group focused on basic, translational, and clinical aspects of neurovascular diseases. In collaboration with many internal and external academic partners and external industry partners, the CVD Lab’s accomplishments include the innovation and development of endovascular devices, imaging techniques, in vitro and cadaver models of disease, and industry support of preclinical device studies. The CVD Lab has grown rapidly since its inception; over $3 million have been awarded in grant funding from various government and industry sponsors. The director of the lab has had continuous federal funding for over 10 years and is a physician-entrepreneur with experience raising a successful Series A funding for a neurovascular device company recently.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related area and/or an equivalent experience / training.
  • Working knowledge of engineering principles and methods in order to independently perform professional engineering design work of limited scope and complexity.
  • working knowledge necessary to begin independent application of principles, practices and procedures in the completion of assignments.
  • Demonstrated organizational and decision-making abilities to prioritize competing work assignments in order to meet deadlines and adherence to quality standards.
  • Strong analytical and judgment skills to independently conduct analyses and develop appropriate recommendations.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative manner; identify challenges and barriers and recommend resolutions.
  • Working knowledge in CAD modeling technologies such as Fusion 360 or SolidWorks.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing techniques and their application in device prototyping or model building.
  • Minimum of one year of related experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Past participation in Stanford Biodesign or similar entrepreneurial coursework.
  • Working knowledge of vascular hemodynamics.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit, with a strong drive to innovate and a passion for improving patient outcomes.
