Position Summary:
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, the incumbent will:
- Design protocols within research objectives set by the Principal Investigator(PI) and the general direction of the project.
- Plan and develop research methodology.
- Co-ordinate breeding and genotype transgenic mice using RT-PCR.
- Assess rodent pain-related behavior and administer drug treatments.
- Prepare solutions (paraformaldehyde, phosphate buffer, perfusion buffer, hemotoxylin and safranin stains)
- Perform intra-cardiac perfusions of laboratory rodents.
- Perform immunohistochemistry experiments and relevant microscopy
- Perform Co-immuntoprecipitation and Western Blot
- Compile and analyze data.
- Use expertise and scholarly background to advance research and break new ground.
- Resolve conceptional problems in design(independently)
- Develop models and trouble shoots methods(independently)
- Write manuscripts or components of manuscripts.
- Works autonomously and focuses on research objectives while recognizing unanticipated opportunities in the course of a project.
- Assist in the technical training of of graduate and undergraduate students.
- Supports administrative functions of the laboratory (ordering equipment, supplies and chemicals, maintaining chemical inventories, ensuring lab safety, preparation of animal protocols.)
Qualifications:
Master’s degree with supervisory experience and experience in web-lab and microscopy techniques. Knowledge of basic computer software for data analysis, quantification and statistical analyses.
