Prof Ignea research laboratory at the Department of Bioengineering, specialized in Synthetic Biology is seeking to hire a full time Research assistant 2, to assist in related research to the production of high value compounds in yeast and the development of synthetic biology and metabolic engineering advanced approaches for this purpose.
This research involves experimental work including cloning, strain engineering, metabolite extraction and chemical analysis, protein expression and purification, and enzymatic assays, among other procedures.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Set up experiments according to provided protocols or develop protocols; suggest optimizations and recommendations.
  • Prepare and set up materials and equipment using established protocols for a variety of assays, analyses, and tests in preparation for research labs.
  • Maintain records, compile, and file data.
  • Oversee installation, maintenance, and operation of lab related equipment
  • Assist in overseeing laboratory budgets and maintain equipment and supplies inventory
  • Assist in purchasing equipment and supplies and keep track of lab purchases and needs.
  • Maintain smooth daily operations of instructional laboratories
  • Assist other junior researchers to ensure smooth execution of experiments and projects
  • Assist junior new lab members on equipment usage and safety procedures
  • Contribute to grant writing and manuscript
  • Implement and enforce EHS safety guidelines to ensure safety.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant scientific field
  • Strong background in molecular biology and synthetic biology techniques
  • Experience in a research laboratory setting, preferably in a relevant discipline.
  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, cloning, DNA assembly)
  • Experience with microbial cultivation and genetic engineering
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent command of English
  • Familiarity with lab safety regulations and best practices
