Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant/Project Coordinator to work on a study evaluating the impact of active school environments on young people’s health: the HAPPY (Health and Activity of Pupils in Primary Years) study. It will examine the effect of school physical activity practices, the physical environment, and economic policies on children’s physical and related social, emotional health and educational attainment.
The study is funded by the National Institute for Health Research School of Public Health Research, and is part of the Children, Young People and Families programme and is led by Professor Sonia Saxena at Imperial College London, with co-leads from Imperial College London (Dr Bina Ram), Cambridge University (Dr Esther van Sluijs), Durham University (Professor Carolyn Summerbell and Dr Nadia Siddiqui), University of Birmingham (Dr Miranda Pallan), and Exeter University (Dr Melvyn Hillsdon).

WHAT YOU WOULD BE DOING

In this role you will help with all aspects of the HAPPY study that has now moved into the data entry and analysis stages from i) a survey of ~200 schools in London ii) a cross sectional study of 20 schools and approx. 600 children assessed for outcomes of physical activity (measured using wrist worn monitors), social and emotional health, and educational outcomes (assessed using validated questionnaire instruments). Therefore, we are seeking an enthusiastic individual with excellent communication skills, training to Masters level in a discipline related to public health, and quantitative skills in analysis using STATA or R software.
Main duties include day-to-day project co-ordination duties i.e. preparing datasets including data entry, quality checks, preparing data for analysis for interpretation by the research team. You may be required to liaise with external organisations schools and local authorities. Other project duties include contributing to writing reports, presenting work at internal and external meetings/ seminars, and opportunities to contribute to publications. The successful candidate will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service check through Imperial College London. Hybrid working will be optional if the tasks allow.
A Disclosure Barring Service Check (DBS) check is essential for the post.
