EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Level I: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Horticulture, Agriculture, or other discipline appropriate to the position; no experience required.
Level II: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Horticulture, Agriculture, or other discipline appropriate to the position and 2 years of relevant experience.
Level III: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Horticulture, Agriculture, or other discipline appropriate to the position and 4 years of relevant experience.
Level IV: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Horticulture, Agriculture, or other discipline appropriate to the position and 6 years of relevant experience.

SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED FOR EXPERIENCE:

When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications

MINIMUM SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Willingness and ability to work outdoors in Alabama weather conditions; Knowledge and/or experience with the calibration of equipment and sprayers; demonstrated technical excellence; ability to work independently and in a team environment; experience operating tractors and other farm related equipment; and knowledge and/or experience with pesticides are required.

MINIMUM TECHNOLOGY SKILLS

General experience in word processing and spreadsheet software.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with herbicide applications and safety desired.
Posting Detail Information

Operation and maintenance of farm equipment in support of agricultural research.
Preparing field plots for planting selected vegetables.
Installing plastic mulch, drip-irrigation, and fertilizer injection.
Planting, maintaining, and harvesting horticultural crops; applying pesticides, fertilizers, and other chemicals.
Maintaining records and data from projects with accuracy to facilitate timely publications and performing other duties as assigned.
The individual selected for the position must be willing and able to work outside in Alabama weather conditions.
