REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Current MRU Student
- Completion of and solid performance in ANTH 3321 Human Osteology (or equivalent)
- Independent work ethic with extreme attention to detail
- Problem solving skills, especially involving technological capacity
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Previous experience with:
- Identification and analysis of fragmentary, archaeological skeletal remains
- 3D structured light scanning, related software, and/or 3D printing
Responsibilities:
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Research Assistant will be responsible for Bioarchaeology curatorial duties and creating 3D digital images of archaeological skeletal remains. This position requires a keen attention to detail with extremely careful organizational strategies. They will develop and practice skills related to Bioarchaeological identification and analysis; non-invasive imaging methods in archaeology; and the creation and management of large data files and spreadsheets.
A total of 100 hours are available for this Research Assistant position, the successful applicant will work approximately 10-15h per week until the hours are completed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Research Assistant will be responsible for Bioarchaeology curatorial duties and creating 3D digital images of archaeological skeletal remains. Job duties and expectations may include:
- Creation and careful documentation of human osteological inventories.
- Strategic and informed placement of curatorial labels.
- Detailed photographic documentation of remains.
- Regular set up and operation of structured light scanning equipment ( Einscan Pro 2x).
- Generation and editing of 3D images using various 3D modelling and design software.
- Organization, management, and backup associated image and data files.
