Job Description:

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Signature Research Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) aims to pioneer the development and discovery of new and more effective methods for the treatment, prevention and control of new and emerging pathogens. The key outcome of the research will be the early identification of new pathogens, out of which new diagnostic tests, treatments and control strategies will be developed.

The successful candidate will join Dr Alan Hsu’s research group in EID at Duke-NUS Medical School and will contribute to ground-breaking research in a collaborative and dynamic environment. He / She will perform a variety of research activities which include planning, organising and conducting research studies within the overall scope of a research project under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or his/her designate, including but not limited to the following: -

  • Perform general and human primary cell culture, cell differentiation and air-liquid-interface culture.
  • Perform molecular and cell biology assays, including PCR, RT-PCR, Western Blotting, immunofluorescent staining and histology.
  • Able to handle BSL2 viruses, including virus propagation, infection, and related tasks.
  • Conduct accurate monitoring, documenting and reporting of experimental results and/or research findings.
  • Assist with general upkeep of laboratory needs, maintain safety protocols, provide technical support and establish work procedures to ongoing research projects.
  • Possess strong interpersonal communications skills with excellent written, oral communication and computer skills.
  • Perform experiments with live laboratory mice, including virus infection and drug administration, and monitor mice during and after infection/treatment.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described therein.
