We are seeking a talented and motivated Scientist to join our Mass Spectrometry Core Facility.
This position is ideal for a scientist with experience in mass spectrometry, particularly with Thermo Scientific instruments and software, who is passionate about making a meaningful impact in biomedical research.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

We are seeking a candidate who brings both expertise and enthusiasm to our team:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. or Master’s degree in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or a closely related field, with relevant experience in mass spectrometry.
  • Strong understanding of general research objectives and experience with routine laboratory procedures, experimental protocols, and overall lab organization.
  • Must be highly motivated, able to work independently, and possess strong organizational skills, communication, and interpersonal.
  • Demonstrated experience operating Thermo Scientific mass spectrometry instruments (e.g., Exploris Orbitrap, Vanquish LC Systems).
  • Proficiency in Thermo Scientific software platforms, including Xcalibur.
  • Strong background in proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, and small molecule analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and optimize complex systems.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Excel and Word, and strong digital literacy.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects with keen attention to detail.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with method development, data analysis, and reporting in a regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with pharmacokinetics, bioavailability studies, and integration of small molecule analysis with omics data.
  • A track record of scientific publications in relevant areas of mass spectrometry and data analysis.

Responsibilities:

As a Lead Mass Spectrometry Scientist, you will:

  • Operate Advanced Instruments: Manage and operate Thermo Scientific liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry systems, including but not limited to Exploris Orbitrap and Vanquish LC Systems, ensuring optimal performance for complex biological analyses.
  • Leverage Specialized Software: Utilize Thermo Scientific software platforms, including Tracefinder, ExactFinder, PepFinder, Xcalibur, and Compound Discoverer, to streamline workflows, control instruments, process data, and generate reports.
  • Design and Execute Experiments: Develop and optimize experimental protocols for proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, and small molecule analyses. You will also be responsible for implementing targeted and general unknown screening applications.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Perform data acquisition, interrogation, and interpretation, contributing to the discovery of biomarkers and therapeutic targets.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with other scientists and researchers at the Institute, leveraging the mass spectrometry platform to connect projects, people, and instruments for efficient collaboration and project management.
  • Automate Relevant Workflows: Utilize software tools such as Xcalibur and TraceFinder to automate workflows tailored to small molecule analyses, lipidomics, and metabolomics. This includes streamlining processes like compound identification, quantification, and characterization, facilitating high-throughput analyses and enhancing data reproducibility.
  • Contribute to Innovation: Stay at the forefront of technological advancements in mass spectrometry and data analysis, bringing innovative solutions to enhance research outcomes.
