QUALIFICATIONS:
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in Health Sciences, Public Health or a related field is required
- 6 months to 3 years of related experience working in a hospital or academic setting is required
- Ability to work somewhat independently with excellent problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Work efficiently under pressure with strong judgement and decision-making skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Well-developed interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Knowledge and proficiency with MS Office applications including Excel, Outlook, Access and Word is preferred
- Experience with REDCap an asset
- Demonstrated record of good performance and acceptable attendance will be considered as part of the selection criteria
- Professional behaviour and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, as applicable, and the standards of Women’s College Hospital
- This position plays a critical role in acting as an advocate for safety and will demonstrate principles, practices and processes that will optimize a safe environment for all
Responsibilities:
- Good understanding of research design and research ethics
- Completes data entry and quality control ensuring the accuracy and integrity of data collection; may investigate missing or invalid data and prepare data sets; may assist in the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data and the interpretation of results
- Participates in the review of data collection strategies
- Completes review of medical records to collect research data
- Experience with medical chart reviews preferred
- Experience in cancer research / understanding of cancer biology preferred
- Prepares detailed notes of all interactions with participants
- Assist with grant writing and submissions; prepare forms, budgets, appendices and other documents as required
- Assist with submission of manuscripts to scientific journals – may involve creating tables, figures, proof reading, preparation of cover letter, coordinating documents to sign, electronic submission
- Helps maintain research files to store, access, and retrieve study data as specified at one or more sites
- May assist team members with preparing materials for proposals, progress reports, presentations, and publications
- Provides assistance with the modification and maintenance of electronic and paper information, filing/ retrieval methods, systems and/or formats
- May act as a primary contact person for research participants, conducting telephone, online, or in-person recruitment interviews to collect study participant data including obtaining informed consent; thus, experience consenting participants into research studies preferred
- Assist in the preparation of submissions to the Research Ethics Board
- May provide functional supervision to Research Trainees. Research Assistant Is or Volunteers
- Communicates with Research Manager, Coordinator, and/or Principal Investigator(s) to provide updates
- Schedules and attends research meetings, including preparing agendas and meeting minutes
- Prioritizes and monitors various study deadlines for their own work
- Provides other administrative support as required, including filing, photocopying, acquiring signatures and CV maintenance
