Description:

We are currently seeking to fill our Research Assistant II position at the Philadelphia campus with a highly qualified and passionate individual.

FLSA: NON EXEMPT, FULL-TIME

Position Summary:
We are seeking a research assistant to be shared in their efforts to support multiple faculty in their interests in infectious disease, immunology and skeletal development research at PCOM. Job responsibilities include conducting and coordinating research, and lab management. Coordinating the research laboratory will necessitate organizing research projects, overseeing and training research students, and general laboratory maintenance. To proficiently conduct research, the candidate should be skilled in cell culture and aseptic techniques, molecular biology techniques, (protein extraction, ELISA assays, PCR, etc.), and microscopy. Experience with histological techniques (Ex: sample preparation, histological staining, in situ hybridization) is preferred. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working with rodents or be willing to learn. The candidate must be able to multitask, be detail oriented, and work well independently and in a team environment.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience is required.
  • Two to four years of relevant experience is preferred.

Responsibilities:

1) Proficiently performs at least 4-6 experimental techniques (such as tissue culture, western blotting, PCR, ELISAs, biochemical assays, etc.). Willing and able to learn new molecular/animal biology techniques and handle mice. Responsible for troubleshooting. Trains others in mastered experimental techniques.
2) Maintains project data (collection, logging, entry, analysis, reporting) to support lab and student research activities. Assists or manages the preparation of posters, manuscripts and meeting presentations. Presents research findings at meetings. Performs literature reviews as needed to support research projects.
3) Performs and oversees general lab maintenance and safety to ensure smooth operation of research. Prepares equipment, special components and reagents for experiments. Performs general equipment monitoring and maintenance.
Working conditions: Work requires minimal physical exertion. Ability to lift and carry 10-20 pounds, stoop, reach, stand, walk, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see and perform repetitive motions with or without reasonable accommodations.
