QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
- Indexing experience is not necessary, training will be provided.
- The applicant must be a Social Science or Humanities student in the third year of their undergraduate degree. Must have basic computer skills, including the use of EXCEL and WORD programs.
- Must be able to follow technical instructions and work independently.
- Must check in weekly with the Supervisor.
Responsibilities:
In this project, Drs. Harms and Petrella have partnered with the Tribal Council of the Anisininew Peoples of Island Lake in a historical recovery project, by delving into the records made by Hudson Bay Company’s Trade Post Managers, 1700s to the present. A large body of transcribed texts has been created, that requires thematic organization and indexing.
The research assistant will be responsible for the creation of an indexing system, organizing these records both chronically and thematically. This will require reading all documents, writing a schematic summaries of the type of record and its content (using a key word system), and organizing each fragment into a chronological system.
