Responsibilities:
ABOUT THE ROLE
Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) in the Guder Research Group of Dr Firat Guder. The post aims to develop Roliner, an AI controlled adaptive wearable fitting device to maximise the prosthetic comfort and reduce the complications caused by the fitting problems. The project aims to solve the unmet medical need by combining microfluidics, programming, and medical device design. The successful applicant will join a highly technical and industrial team as part of the project to develop a device for the industrial adaptation, as part of this industrial research grant.
The candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to) developing the programming, material testing, custom-made machinery design and electronic board design. Because of the intense project timeline, the candidate must have experience in multi-tasking, problem-solving and should have a sufficient level of understanding of medical devices. The candidate will be expected to attend events, conferences in the UK and abroad, and therefore they should be flexible for travelling, when pandemic conditions permitting.
We seek a highly motivated individual to fill this post, in possession of a master’s degree in biomedical engineering or related discipline.
WHAT YOU WOULD BE DOING
- Scientific research and product development activities including
- Fabrication, testing and optimization of microfluidic architectures and electronic circuits
- Development of custom-made testing equipment for experimental setups
- Product design, prototyping, and testing of robotic wearable devices (Roliner)
- Data analysis and processing, to visualise and communicate complex data
- Presenting findings to colleagues at internal and external meetings and conferences, developing animations and visual assets
- Drafting publications for scientific publication
- Assisting and supervising post-graduate students and visiting researchers
- Collaborating with the project partner, a manufacturing factory, to convey the scientific outputs for industrial applicability
