About the role
We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic research assistant to join the dynamic Autoimmunity and Immune Regulation Research Team at King’s College London led by Professor Tim Tree (https://www.kcl.ac.uk/research/tree-group). As part of the Department of Immunobiology, the group’s research focus is analysing immune responses in a range of human autoimmune and inflammatory diseases with specific interest in type-1 diabetes.
The successful candidate will be involved in conducting state of the art immune assays on samples from individuals taking part in a wide range of immunotherapy trials and clinical studies. These studies aim to identify immunological signatures of clinical responsiveness to a treatment, provide novel insights into why treatments succeed or fail and identify new targets to prevent or cure the disease.
The successful appointee will be comfortable working in a multidisciplinary, collaborative and fast-paced research environment. They will be capable of working autonomously but also have excellent interpersonal skills to work as part of a team.
Experience of relevant laboratory techniques including the isolation and culture of immune cells and flow cytometry would be an advantage, however, enthusiasm, dedication and a keen desire to learn new skills will hold more value and relevant training and guidance will be provided by our experienced team of scientists.
The post is based at Guy’s hospital and will give access to cutting edge core facilities (Flow Cytometry, Genomics and Bioinformatics). Overall, this post offers an exciting opportunity for an ambitious junior scientist to develop a research career in translational immunology.
This is a full time, and you will be offered an a fixed term contract 30 November 2026, or for 24 months from start date.
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

• A BSc in relevant subject area
• A good knowledge of the human immune system
• Experience of laboratory-based research in a biomedical setting
• Ability to learn new techniques
• Excellent time management, problem solving and organizational skills

Desirable criteria

• A MSc in relevant subject area (covering basic Immunology)
• Experience of assays to measure immune cell function
• Experience with processing clinical trial samples under GCLP guidelines
• Experience of high dimensional flow cytometry
• Knowledge of programming/advanced data analysis (e.g. R or Python)
