Description:
The Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics (EEE) invites applications for the post of Research Assistant in the Advanced Networks Research Group (ANRG).
The Department has a long-standing record of research into fixed and wireless communications and is focused on the analysis and design of next generation network architectures, security, protocols, communications devices and future network traffic.
The research will involve the evaluation and enhancement of wireless intrusion detection systems for open Wi-Fi networks.
We welcome applications from people with a background in Electrical Engineering and Electronics, and/or Computer Science, and especially from candidates with interests in wireless network, network security, Linux-based embedded systems and software development.
The research will be undertaken under the supervision of Professor Alan Marshall, who leads the Advanced Networks Research Group in EEE, and will also involve working with an industrial project partner. The post will suit individuals looking to gain valuable experience in wireless networks and their security.
As a Research Assistant, you will play a key role in evaluating and enhancing a next-generation intrusion detection and prevention system for Wi-Fi networks. This includes using access points and other Wi-Fi enabled devices, investigating its integration into a range of Linux-based embedded systems, creating new security features, liaising with the project partner, and performing field trials.
Due to the nature of this opportunity, the position is only open to those who can start by February 2025.
This post is available on a full-time, fixed-term basis until the end of August 2025.
You must be able to prove your eligibility to work in the UK for the duration of the tenure.
