Description:
JOB SUMMARY
Tuskegee University Center for Biomedical Research (CBR) is seeking multi-talented applicants for its Research Assistant. The Research Assistant will oversee daily operations and spearhead the strategic planning of breast cancer research in the Karanam Lab at Tuskegee University.
QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SPECIALIZED TRAINING)
- Doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, MD, DO, DVM) in a chemistry or biomedical-related field
- Demonstrated expertise in the fields of chemical synthesis, biomarker discovery, analysis of clinical specimens, analysis of clinical data, development of sensor-based point-of-care device
- A proven and robust record of scientific productivity suitable for a research associate role, including publications
- Foundation in statistical analyses is a plus
SKILLS:
- Good communication skills
- A meticulous approach to record-keeping

Responsibilities:
- Participate in research data collection and analysis; develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures; conduct studies of related literature; write and publish articles in scientific journals
- Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines
- Analyze results of experiments and procedures using manual or computer techniques and, if necessary, develop special computer programs to facilitate analysis
- Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects
- Present findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally, and internationally
- Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants and other research personnel engaged in research activities and/or related laboratory work
- Compose articles for publication in scientific journals; review articles prepared by others
- Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and operate microscopes, computer-linked analytical equipment, dedicated computers, and other complex scientific equipment; instruct others in operation of equipment
- Perform other duties as assigned
