About the role
We are looking for a research assistant with a keen interest in tax policy, particularly tax avoidance and evasion. The research assistant will support and assist with data cleaning and analysis for a British Academy-funded project on inheritance tax in the United Kingdom. This role involves working primarily in the HMRC Datalab in London, handling large micro-level administrative datasets.
This part-time position (25% FTE) offers a fixed-term contract from 1 November 2024 (or a negotiated alternative date) until 31 August 2025, with the possibility of extension subject to funding.
About you
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
1. Good knowledge of STATA and R
2. Good ability to collaborate on computer code
3. Fluency in English (spoken and written)
4. Interest in working on compiling and analysing data on a large scale to inform public and academic debate
Desirable criteria
1. Experience in working with large micro datasets
2. Knowledge of tax avoidance literature
3. Interest in tax avoidance measurement
