Description:
Organization Overview: Our laboratory begins with molecular mechanisms, and we work our way to the genetic bases of human diseases that are caused by defects in the proteins we study. We have repeatedly used this reverse genetic approach to successfully elucidate the genetic bases of a variety of human and mouse disorders, ranging from blistering skin disorders and skin tumors/cancers,to a rare form of muscle degeneration and a sensory neurological disorder. Overview:
The Rockefeller University, a leading biomedical research institution, seeks a part-time Research Assistant to join the Fuchs Laboratory of Mammalian Cell Biology & Development. This individual will work as part of a highly talented team of molecular, cell, and developmental biologists seeking an understanding of the properties of adult skin stem cells and how aberrations in their biology can lead to skin disorders, including cancers. This individual may be trained in additional procedures, and surgical techniques if exceptional ability in animal work is shown.
Responsibilities:
Specific tasks include:
- Will assist with the daily maintenance and propagation of an animal colony including animal handling, husbandry, tissue biopsies, weaning, and phenotyping.
- Will aid in implementing and maintaining a database for tracking animal lineage and organizing genotyping data, and helping to manage cage card census.
- Will communicate with laboratory investigators to ensure the health and welfare of their research subjects, stocking of supplies and equipment maintenance.
- Opportunity to increase skills and expertise, if exceptional ability in animal work is shown.
Qualifications:
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree required.
- Must be willing to work with small rodents.
- Must have the ability to keep accurate records of the work performed, actively seek opportunities to increase skills and expertise, and be able to learn complex tasks with general instruction.
