Description:

The SLim Group is looking for a dedicated and highly motivated Research Assistant (RA) who is interested in developing bacterial cellulose as a depot for delivery of active agents for wound healing application. The RA will contribute to a multi-disciplinary project involving bioengineering, materials science, and biological science.

The RA will be responsible for:

  • setting up protocols for biosynthesis of bacterial cellulose;
  • executing experiments to achieve the specific aims of the project;
  • presenting results in various meetings/forums;
  • preparing reports for submission to the funding agency;
  • liaising with other scientists in the team as well as in other groups to develop the required expertise;
  • advising final year project and/or interns in the project.

Technical competencies

  • Bachelor in bioengineering or related fields
  • Working knowledge in bacterial cellulose production
  • Basic knowledge on protein production using E. coli and purification using AKTA FPLC
  • Working knowledge in basic molecular biology techniques and protein analytics
  • Highly preferred skills: familiarity with wound healing and knowledge of in vivo experiments
  • Able to design and execute experiments with minimal instructions

Administrative competencies

  • Good communication skills in both verbal and written forms
  • Take initiatives and lead a project and ensure delivery of outcomes in a timely manner
  • Team player who will take part in general lab activities
