Description:
THIS POSTING WILL BE USED TO HIRE 2 POSITIONS
Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
This position involves finding, processing, analyzing, and summarizing historical sources, especially governmental and popular-press sources, as research support for a project in the history of medicine.
Searches will be conducted online in databases available to the public and/or to UW community members. All work can be performed remotely, assuming remote access to UW library resources.
Researchers will be expected to familiarize themselves with the project and to engage in critical thinking about primary research in historical sociology.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Familiarity with qualitative textual research methods in the social sciences or humanities is required.
- A background in primary historical research or historical sociology is a plus.
- Candidates should describe relevant coursework or research experience in their cover letter.
- Access to UW library resources.
- Applications should include a cover letter detailing the reasons for your interest in this project and all relevant coursework and research experience. Candidates are also welcome (but not required) to include a paper written for class or other scholarly output demonstrating their ability to find, evaluate, analyze, and synthesize primary sources.
