ABOUT THE POSITION
The Mycology Research Laboratory is seeking a motivated and dedicated Research Assistant to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Principal Investigator and Lab Technician to quantify arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) associated with representative plant species in both natural and disturbed grassland sites in Alberta.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Essential Skills:
- Completed or currently working towards a diploma or bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, agriculture, or related field, with a minimum of one years of laboratory experience (academic or professional)
- Students enrolled in other programs will also be considered with applicable experience
- Substantial practical experience with microscopy is considered an asset. Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks
- Should wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as lab coats, gloves, protective glasses, mask, etc., when required. Proficient at working with small lab equipment, fume hoods and chemical reagents. Training will be provided as needed
- WHIMIS and Biosafety training completed or to be completed in the first week of work
- Capacity to consistency and meticulously adhere to protocol
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Able to work a flexible schedule
- Comfortable with field work and laboratory environment
- Strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks as required
- Organized, high attention to detail, reliable and honest
- Excellent oral and written proficiency in the English language
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel
- Driver’s license: Class 5
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience Preferred:
- Considerable practical experience with microscopy is an asset
- Accurate and efficient data entry skill is an asset
- Interest in mycology and laboratory processes
- Good biology, chemistry, and math skills
- Full-time student at Lethbridge Polytechnic who completed or is currently working towards a diploma or bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, agriculture, or related field, with a minimum of one years of laboratory experience (academic or professional)
