Description:
The ”Ultrafast Coherent Dynamics“ (ULTRA) group at the Institute of Physics of the University of Oldenburg (Germany) invites applications for three
RESEARCH ASSISTANT / PHD-STUDENT (M/F/D)
(E13 TV-L, 65 %)
positions, starting as soon as possible and initially limited by 3 years. The positions offer the possibility to pursue a doctoral degree (PhD).
The research focus of the ULTRA group is the coherent control of ultrafast quantum dynamics in atoms and molecules using shaped femtosecond (fs) laser pulses. Current objectives are the development of novel techniques for the generation of polarization-tailored fs-pulses, e.g., 3D light fields generated by non-collinear superposition of two polarization-shaped fs-laser beams. The potential of these tailored light fields for the coherent control of ultrafast molecular dynamics, such as non-adiabatic dynamics at conical intersections or the coupled electron-nuclear dynamics underlying the photoelectron circular dichroism of chiral molecules, will be explored using photoelectron imaging spectroscopy.
We are seeking highly motivated candidates with a qualifying university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in experimental physics and a strong interest in the coherent control of ultrafast electron dynamics. We expect practical experience in at least one of the following areas:
- Generation and characterization of femtosecond laser pulses,
- Photoelectron imaging spectroscopy,
- Implementation of a high-vacuum apparatus (high-vacuum techniques, high-voltage electronics, particle detection).
Experimental expertise in femtosecond pulse shaping is ideal. Very good command of English, both written and spoken, is mandatory. Good communication skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary international team are expected. Experience in programming and advanced data analysis is desirable.
The University of Oldenburg is an equal opportunity employer seeking to increase the proportion of female employees in research. In accordance with Lower Saxony regulations (§ 21 Section 3 NHG) female candidates with equal qualifications will be preferentially considered. Applicants with disabilities will be given preference in case of equal qualification.
Please send your application, including a letter of motivation, curriculum vitae, copies of university certificates, preferred in a single PDF file via email no later than 01.09.2024 to the University of Oldenburg, Fakulty V, Institute of Physics, AG Ultrafast Coherent Dynamics, Carl-von-Ossietzky-Straße 9-11, 26129 Oldenburg ultra.appl@uol.de.
