Description:

The University of Virginia School of Medicine invites applications for a tenure-ineligible Research Assistant Professor to work in the lab of Dr. Jianjie Ma. The successful candidate will conduct research in the Department of Surgery, focusing on cellular and molecular biology related to surgical biomedical research. The candidate will engage in translational research to further understand cellular processes such as membrane repair, muscle regeneration, organ transplantation, neointima formation, stem cell biology, targeted drug delivery, and the response of cancer cells to therapeutic treatment. Responsibilities include conducting a wide array of gene editing, gene delivery, biochemistry, cellular imaging evaluations applicable to regenerative medicine, diabetes, surgical oncology, organ transplantation, cancer therapeutics, and aging biology. Prior experience in biotechnology development or startup companies is required. There are no clinical responsibilities associated with this position.
This position will be expected to demonstrate basic knowledge in research design and engineering, implementation of research procedures, data analysis, interpretation of results, presentation of data, and research scholarship. The candidate is also expected to have strong communication skills and be willing to participate in team-based translational research.

Qualified applicants will possess a Doctoral degree in Biochemistry, Physiology, Integrated Biology, or a closely related field and will also have successfully completed a post-doctoral fellowship in a surgical biomedical research lab focusing on cardiovascular disease, regenerative medicine, and animal models of cardiovascular research.
