JOB SUMMARY

The Institute for Social Research (ISR) at the University of Michigan invites applications for a joint tenure-track assistant professor faculty position as part of the 2024 Michigan Program for Advancing Cultural Transformation (M-PACT) program. ISR is the world’s largest academic social science survey and research organization, a leader in developing and applying new social science methods, and committed to educating the next generation of social scientists. ISR is made up of five centers, each contributing to knowledge about human behavior, social interaction and data collection of interest to the general public, decision-makers in government and the private sector, and scholars around the world. ISR’s centers are separate, but interdependent; they include: the Survey Research Center (SRC); Population Studies Center (PSC); Research Center for Group Dynamics (RCGD); Center for Political Studies (CPS), and the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR). Faculty hired under this opportunity will hold both an appointment as a Research Assistant Professor in one of these ISR Centers and a tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment in one of the university’s participating schools and colleges.
We are seeking candidates who have demonstrated exceptional promise in research and a scientific agenda that will include external funding. This position is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health Faculty Institutional Recruitment for Sustainable Transformation (FIRST) Program and the University of Michigan. M-PACT aims to enhance inclusion and equity across the biomedical and health sciences research community by hiring tenure-track faculty with a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS*

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or terminal degree conferred by July 1, 2025 and must never have held a tenure-track faculty appointment. Candidates must be eligible for NIH funding throughout their time in the program. They should have a demonstrated track record of promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) within their field of study through their own research, teaching/mentoring, and/or service activities as well as a commitment to continue to promote DEI in the future through these and/or other activities.
