Description
The Department of Radiology in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the research assistant (RA) will work day shifts at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. Tasks will involve data collection (imaging and behavioural), data management, basic image processing, and research dissemination. The RA will work primarily in an office setting, completing tasks on a computer. Data collection will involve interaction with children and families. The RA will assist with other aspects of study management as required and take direction/work closely with the research coordinator in the lab.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Will work with data from human volunteers and will uphold the strongest ethical and privacy standards
  • Will support a variety of lab activities and research projects being conducted by the PI and trainees
  • Work with other research assistants and project manager as needed
  • Advertise studies and recruit participants
  • Collect imaging and behavioural data from participants
  • Organize, process, and distribute data as needed
  • Conduct data processing and analysis, e.g., using FSL, AFNI, and/or ExploreDTI tools
  • Ensure high quality data by conducting quality control assessments as needed
  • Update website and maintain ongoing communication with families through newsletters

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

  • BSc or BA in a related field; MSc preferred
  • Experience working with children
  • Ability to communicate effectively with families and other staff
  • Ability to conduct neuropsychological assessments preferred
  • Experience in a research environment
  • Ability to work in a team environment and to work independently
  • Ability to work successfully within a timeframe
  • Ability to self-motivate and take initiative
  • Resourceful, energetic, self-directed and creative
  • Strong people skills
  • Prior imaging experience an asset
  • Experience with coding, databases, data analysis, web design, newsletter creation are assets
