Description:

The Research Assistant will contribute to ongoing review of literature and scoping, participate in meetings, collaborate to ethics application, design the methods needed for an effective scoping of the project and assistance on data collection and analysis. The Research Assistant will also participate in writing and knowledge dissemination activities. Other duties as assigned.
The analysis will employ a qualitative research method, which includes written descriptions of priorities, processes, and progress in the intersections of Indigenous knowledge, the sustainable development goals and impact assessments in the mining sector. The analysis will also employ a quantitative method, which includes developing and conducting a survey.
The Research Assistant will report to Dr. Cecilia Campero, who will provide additional student training on an as needed basis.

Job Requirements

  • MSc, or MA Student in a relevant discipline, preferably Indigenous Governance, Environmental Studies, Public Policy or Geography.
  • Familiarity with academic and policy literature relevant to this topic.
  • Strong research, writing and communication skills and the ability to analyze and synthesize literature and research findings.
  • Familiarity with NVivo and SPSS.

Preference will be given to Indigenous scholars, and students who can connect this topic with their master’s thesis.
This position is expected to be extended for a second year.
Applications must include (1) CV, (2) cover letter (one page maximum) describing motivations and skills to conduct the research as per the requirements above and, (3) a writing sample (no more than 15 pages in English) such as a published article, graduate thesis, or a term paper.
Additional Information
This is a casual, on-call position from October 7, 2024 until August 29, 2025. The hourly rate is $24.70. Due to its limited term nature, this position is not eligible for enrolment in the University’s Benefits Plan, but you will be provided with 4% in lieu of vacation.
