SUMMARY:

A FULL-TIME RESEARCH ASSISTANT is sought by the Social Developmental Neuroscience Laboratory (PI Dr. Johanna Jarcho), to begin in Summer/Fall 2024. Research in the Social Developmental Neuroscience Lab focuses on the neural mechanisms that shape social cognition, or increase risk for and expression of deficits in social competence linked to psychopathology (http://www.sdnlaboratory.com/).
The ideal applicant will have an interest in research on adolescent internalizing disorders. Their primary duty will be to perform clinical interviews (ADIS-5) with parents and children (8-15 years). Thus, applicants must have already be trained to perform the ADIS-5. In addition to this primary duty, the applicant will help with performing consent/assent, running participants through experimental protocols (including behavioral tasks and fMRI), and recruitment and retention. Depending on their interest and aptitude, they may be asked to help perform quality control checks for data derived from questionnaires, behavioral tasks, and/or neuroimaging. Opportunities may be available for contribution to more advanced analyses and dissemination of data. Many aspects of the job will require work on evenings and weekends given the pediatric population. This position is ideal for a highly motivated individual who plans to apply to graduate school in psychology or related fields.
They will also perform other lab-related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree obtained by start date and at least 6 months of directly related experience. This includes volunteer or paid work. Experience in a lab within a psychology or a related field’s department is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Have received training to administer the Anxiety and Related Disorders Interview Schedule for DSM-5 (ADIS-5) for parents and children
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills
  • Strong project management, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Some experience managing or monitoring the work of others.
  • Comfortable giving presentations to small groups.
