Description:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Manchester Orthopaedic Research and Education (MORE) Group, within the Division of Cell Matrix Biology and Regenerative Medicine to facilitate patient-facing research in Orthopaedics.
You will primarily work at Trafford General Hospital, one of 114 specialist NHS services in England that perform cartilage repair and joint preservation surgeries.
The MORE group specialise in researching the biomechanical outcomes of orthopaedic procedures and understanding how the biological milieu of the joint is affected when diseased or injured. This position will support the MORE group’s ongoing research in these areas.

As a Research Assistant with a background in orthopaedics you will collaborate closely with MORE’s Chief Investigator, Professor Leela Biant, Research Fellow, Dr Gwenllian Tawy and our wider team. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Liaising with patents enrolled/interested in ongoing research studies
  • Conducting gait analyses with patients in the human movement laboratory
  • Collecting and transporting human tissue samples to the University of Manchester
  • Supporting staff with histological analyses of human tissue
  • Supporting staff with the day-to-day activities within the research group

We are seeking candidates from a relevant medical science background (tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, biomedical or biomedical engineering) who will demonstrate strong communication skills, teamwork ethos and clinical professionalism. Expérience of 3D motion-capture gait analyses and analyses of human tissue is essential. Expérience of patient-facing research in a clinical environment is desired. Your expertise will be invaluable in shaping MORE’s ongoing and future research.
Start Date : as soon as possible
Contract Length : 12 months full time (part time applications will be considered)
