POSITION SUMMARY
APC Microbiome Ireland was formed in 2003 and since then, it has established itself as one of the leading global centres in gut microbiota research. The Centre has made several landmark discoveries and published over 3,500 research articles in peer-reviewed journals, generating many journal covers and associated editorials. The APC is a lively multidisciplinary environment with clinicians, clinician-scientists and basic scientists from diverse backgrounds working in teams, sharing ideas and resources.
It is widely recognised that the gut microbiota plays and important role in human health and has become one of the most dynamic, complex and exciting areas of research. The Microbe Restore team at the APC Microbiome Ireland is focused on developing nutritional- and microbiome-based approaches to improve human health and prevent chronic disease.
We are seeking a highly motivated research assistant to join the Microbe Restore team. The successful candidate will have previous laboratory experience working in the areas of microbiology and/or immunology with specific expertise working with bacteria, immune cells, cell lines, flow cytometry, ELISAs etc. The successful candidate will be required to setup and maintain lab equipment, design and execute experiments, analyse data, and record results. They will further provide interpretation of data with the support of the research team and may be required to liaise with external service providers from time to time. In this position, the individuals are expected to carry out lab management tasks and assist in the training of undergraduate and graduate students. They are also expected to make major scientific laboratory-based contributions to the research goals and milestones of the Microbe Restore team and may have the opportunity to develop leadership skills by providing mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students.
UCC is an accredited research organisation and as such can form hosting agreements with third country nationals (and non-EEA nationals) for the purpose of conducting research in the University.

Salary: €31,462 - €41,443 (IUA Research Assistant Salary Scale)
