Description:

Our research team at the Centre for Autonomous Systems Technology (CAST), University of Liverpool, is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to design and develop the control algorithm (crawling gait/peristaltic locomotion) of a small size pneumatic crawler robot. The locomotion mechanism is made of four pneumatic cylinders and three brushless servomotors. The motors control the position and orientation of the cylinders in a coupled manner. The robot has been designed to move inside a complex circuit pipework having multi-path, non-planar sections varying in size, with T and Y junctions.
CAST carries out world-class research, provides high-quality training and education and, through the Virtual Engineering Centre, collaborates with a range of companies to develop, analyse, enhance and deploy autonomous systems. Our work at CAST investigates autonomous systems architectures, cooperation and coordination, verification & validation, and autonomous robotics and autonomy in aerospace.
For more details about the research themes please visit our website at https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/autonomous-systems/research-themes/.
You should have a Bachelor¿s degree (or equivalent) in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering.
Available on a fixed-term basis for 4 months (possibility of extension).
