Description:

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Research Assistant to join the newly established multidisciplinary Oxford-GSK Institute for Molecular & Computational Medicine (IMCM) operating within the Nuffield Department of Medicine.
The Institute is built around IMCM Fellows and Oxford-GSK project teams, initially focusing on neurodegeneration and the central nervous system. As a Research Assistant, you will be recruited to develop your research career and join the Lang group (Oxford-GSK IMCM Fellow, NDM Group Leader & Senior Research Fellow at the Department, of Physiology, Anatomy & Genetics, University of Oxford).
Dr. Lang is building a team of scientists dedicated to answering pressing questions in the field of molecular neurodegeneration. The Lang Lab is an inclusive environment focusing on positive and proactive mentorship, teamwork, and scientific creativity. In this role, you will undertake a multidisciplinary approach to understand communication mechanisms between dopamine neurons and astrocytes in health and neurodegenerative disease. You will be responsible for performing and assisting in the culture, maintenance, and phenotypic characterisation of cell lines (immortalised and iPSC-derived dopamine neurons and astrocytes), and for undertaking cellular and biochemical assays of functional cell biology using advanced techniques in cell and molecular biology; including RT-PCR, immunoblotting and immunocytochemistry, and cell imaging among other responsibilities. You will be assisting with collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions, and research groups and contributing to scientific reports and journal articles and the presentation of data/papers at conferences.
To be successful in this role, you will hold a BSc degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Genetics/Genomics, or a related area along with lab-based research experience and experience in cell culture sterile technique. You will also have experience in general molecular biology techniques (e.g. RT-PCR, immunoblotting, and immunofluorescence and a working knowledge of relevant statistical and analysis programs (eg. GraphPad Prism, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator).
