Description:
The Oxford Cognitive Approaches to Psychosis (O-CAP) clinical psychology research group led by Prof Daniel Freeman develops, tests, and implements new theory-driven psychological treatments.
We wish to appoint two research assistants to help conduct a randomised controlled trial testing a virtual reality cognitive treatment for needle fears in young people. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to important testing of a new therapy for adolescents that could have widespread use.
These posts are fixed-term (1 Full-time; 1 Part-time (0.4 FTE), for 6 months from August 2024. The full-time position will primarily screen, recruit, and assess adolescents for the trial. The part-time position will primarily support delivery of the virtual reality therapy intervention. You will be considered for both posts, however you can express any preferences within the supporting statement.
The posts will provide excellent experience of clinically relevant research and would suit a person interested in going on to either clinical psychology training or further research. Experience will be gained of engaging adolescents and their parents/guardians, NHS services, clinical trials methodology, and clinical psychology research. You would join a large clinical psychology research group comprising clinical psychologists, other research assistants, psychology assistants, project and trial managers, and computer scientists.
With a psychology degree (2:1 or above), you will have an interest in adolescent mental health and psychological treatments. Flexibility to work some irregular hours is essential. Although based in Oxford, there is likely to be travel throughout various NHS trusts, which would be facilitated by having a valid driving licence and access to independent transport.
