Description:

The Division of Nutritional Sciences is seeking applicants for the position of postdoctoral research associate in Cellular and Molecular Nutrition. The candidate is expected to design and conduct research projects in collaboration with Dr. Kersten and other members of the DNS faculty in the area “Nutrition for Metabolic Health”. Research in the Kersten group is aimed at better understanding how lipid metabolism is regulated during feeding and fasting and how lipids govern specific functional outcomes and orchestrate their own metabolism in the liver, fat tissue, and immune cells. A multi-pronged approach is used that ranges from dietary intervention studies in human subjects to physiological experiments in transgenic animals and detailed mechanistic studies in vitro. Multiple projects related to fasting and lipid metabolism are available, depending on personal interest.
In addition, the candidate is expected to contribute to setting up a shared Cellular & Molecular Laboratory within the Division of Nutritional Sciences and contribute to supervising the overall research operations. The candidate may also be asked to contribute to the training of undergraduate and graduate students.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A PhD in molecular nutrition, molecular biology, biochemistry, or any relevant field complemented with several years of postdoctoral experience and several publications as first author.
  • Extensive experience with cell culture models and working with laboratory animals.
  • Experience with advanced molecular and biochemical techniques.
  • Passion for molecular nutrition research and an interest in developing new methods.
  • Experience with the analysis of Omics data including the use of R.
  • Strong internal drive to excel and succeed.
  • Open and positive individual who is self-motivated, has a keen interest in metabolism, and is eager to take on new challenges.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Expertise related to fasting metabolism
  • Experience with flow cytometry and cell sorting
