Description:

The Department of Microbiology, Genetics, and Immunology is seeking a Research Associate (Post-Doc) to work in the lab of Dr. Robert Hausinger. The applicant will carry out molecular biological studies to construct E. coli cells that form components of bacterial microcompartments (BMCs) and enzymes in the pathway for 2-aminophenol degradation with appropriate purification tags and/or sites for covalent attachment. The in vivo-formed BMCs with the encapsulated enzyme will be purified or the individual proteins will be purified and assembled into BMCs in vitro. BMCs will be analyzed by dynamic light scattering, SAXS analysis, and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The enzyme properties will be compared for the free versus encapsulated proteins.
This is a full-time, twelve month, fixed-term position with reappointment contingent on satisfactory performance and available funding.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should have molecular biology and protein purification experience as well as the ability to utilize TEM.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Prior experience with BMCs or other protein encapsulation systems is desired.
